How accurate are the answers provided from Freedom of Information requests?
On 18th June 2009, I submitted a Freedom of Information request using the website http://www.whatdotheyknow.com asking
What the current disposal charge per tonne is for green & food waste currently being collected from the trial areas of Meir and Bentillee?
What the current disposal charge per tonne is for green currently being collected from the rest of the City?
On 27th November 2009 I recieved this answers.
What was the collection and disposal charge per tonne for green & food waste collected from the trial areas of Meir and Bentilee?
– £75.33 per tonne (For the period of time covering the duration of the trial period of waste collection in Meir and Bentilee).
What was the collection and disposal charge per tonne for green being collected from the rest of the City?
– £73.89 per tonne.
This ratio didn’t appear in line with what most recycling web sites were quoting for the 2 different forms of composting, as Food Waste needs to be composted under a DEFRA licence, so another FOI request was made to see the invoices, the invoices can be viewed here http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/past_present_and_future_costs_of#incoming-69630
These invoices show that under the old scheme of Green Garden waste in Sept 08 it cost £26 per tonne to dispose of under the New ENHANCED scheme in August 09 it cost £65 per tonne. Which clearly is not inline with my FOI reply 15 January 2010 which stated £73.89 per tonne and £75.33 per tonne.
So who checks the Information providers? Anyone else had difficulty in getting accurate information form Local Councils?
