Policy & Design Team have raised concerns over the multi coloured skin of the New Civic Centre
The interface of the honeycomb skin with the fritted glazing looks clumsy. The windows on the north elevation look awkward within the context of the proportions of this façade. With regard to the building wrap generally, the multiple use of colours detracts from the visual impact of the structure of the honeycomb skin. This is a shame because the structure of the honeycomb skin has the capacity to form an iconic design. It is suggested that the colours be restricted to two contrasting and complementary colours for the majority of the honeycomb skin, with the addition of a third colour to bring attention to key focal points on the building.
